PK Notes on Notable moments Vol 2:
Hi folks
Since my Vol 1 was a fun listening adventure, I thought I’d put another
Compilation together.
These are primarily electric guitar moments with just a couple of quieter acoustic bits.
These selections cover solos and collaborations from over 53 years from 1970 through 2024- both live and in the studio.
Part 1:
1. (00:00) Intro-another short intro similar to Vol 1.
2. (00:18) Can you see me- solo from the 1970 debut Decca release by Glass
Harp. Playing my 1960 Les Paul into a fender twin reverb amp. I was 19 years old -I traded that classic guitar for the 71 Deluxe Les Paul I still have today.
3. (01:27) Beyond This Day - solo from my 1995 album 220. Playing my Zion through a Deluxe Reverb amp with perhaps an overdrive pedal.
4. (02:19) The Road Home- end solo- 2001. From my cinemascapes cd.
Played my Strat through a Yamaha guitar processor.
5. (03:07) A Promise Kept - I imagine this was also around 2001. Same album as track #4 - played my black Parker Fly through a Deluxe Reverb.
6. (04:25) Sitting on top of the world – this is my Les Paul , me doing a
harmonized solo like Mr. Les Paul himself might have done. 2022
7. (04:47) Baby Blue - end solo on my Les Paul through a Vox AC 30- 1993
8. (06:02) Doin Nothing - ending Strat solo in 1992- really raucous - great little band too with phil Madeira, John Sferra and Wade Jaynes.
9. (09:34) Fearless love- middle solo with the talented Lionel Cartwright on piano. This was from my All At Once album recorded 2016. Playing my Les Paul through Denny Jiosa’s PRS amp. Chester Thompson on drums, Rick Cua on bass.
10. (10:23) Time- 1976, end jam with these great players: Jim Gordon on drums, Leland Sklar on Bass and Larry Knechtel on organ.
11. (13:37) Passport - 2008 version produced by Randy George- end solo I
played lead on my Strat and atmosphere chords with my Zion guitar.
12. (16:28) In My Arms - 2010- solo from one of the Trio albums with John Sferra and Jack Giering. Zion guitar into a Line 6 Pod.
13. (17:18) Ziggerat- 2010 - solo from this piece with kyle Jones on percussion from our Numen project. Zion guitar
14. (18:34) First Base- another snippet from trio project with John sferra and Jack Giering - 2010. Miss Jack. John and I thought he was a great talent. Les Paul guitar.
15. (19:38) Mosaic 3 - 2020 with Jeff Johnson from our Ravenna project. Playing Zion guitar and a borrowed mandolin.
16. (21:35) This Far Gone - 2023 - clean tone on my Zion guitar. This solo is on a song my neighbor and friend Joe Perrin wrote and recorded at my place.
17. (22:05) Sharpen The Axe - 2023. My solo on the electric version of a new song by friend Paul Clark. Great song. It will be released soon from paul. I’m playing my Yamaha SA 2000 guitar through a Supro amp.
18. (22:40) Mosaic 8 - 2020 ..another one of the Ravenna songs with Jeff Johnson - I’m playing my trusty white Zion. I love how it can sound as sweet as my oldest paul and half the weight.
19. (23:44) Ain’t Misbehaving - 2022. This is my solo from this recording by Mike Lawson and Friends. Lots of fun music Mike records, and I’ve played on a lot of his tunes. Again, I’m playing my Yamaha SA 2000 guitar through a Supro amp.
20. (24:26) Portrait Of Jesus — 2023…This is a wonderful and lengthy composition by Tom Mowrey and Cocho Arbe! It runs about 25 minutes in length and this a portion toward the end of my guitar work. Try to give the whole composition a listen—it’s very inspiring! Among other fine musicians on this, Alex Acuna is on drums and percussion and Gary Lunn is on bass. You can find it on my Bandcamp site. Playing my Zion guitar.
21. (25:40) Suite Of Reflections — 1978. This is a portion of my guitar solo from the first piece I recorded for my album “The Master and The Musician” Gary Hedden engineered so adeptly! This will always be a very special record to me! Many thanks to Gary! I played my Les Paul through a couple of amps linked together.
22. (26:37) Digital Maze— 2001… This is a solo from my collaborative album with my Uncle Duke — Dave Keaggy, my dad’s younger brother. Uncle Duke penned the lyrics to the entire album. I’m playing a Parker Fly through some pedals into a Fender Deluxe Reverb amp.
23. (27:10) Love Divine— 1992. From my Crimson and Blue album, produced with the excellent Lynn Arthur Nichols. This short solo was played on a mid 60s Gretch Tennessean through a Vox AC 30. Same band as on Doing Nothing and John The Revelator!
24. (27:36) Calling You—1989. From the album” Find Me In These Fields. Love this recording! I’m playing the solo on a Rickenbacker 12 string through a Vox AC 30. The band was this time: Mike Mead on drums, Rick Cua on bass, Phil Madeira on organ.
25. (28:30) Carry On—1989. Same band line up as on the previous track. I’m playing my Strat through that old Tube screamer into a Vox AC 30. Lots of energy here from the band!
26. (29:44) Beauty For Ashes— 2024. I felt this was a very pretty piece and wanted to include a portion of it here. Bob Wingate composed it and sent me his recorded guitar part. I heard a sweet electric guitar part and recorded it on my Zion guitar and sent it back to Bob, who was delighted with it. Thanks Bob and thanks for the years of support and encouragement!
27. (31:10) Like Snow Before The Sun— 2005. This was the opening track for my Phantasmagorical album, one of my son Ian’s favorite projects I’ve done. 28. (32:26) Caelum—2020. Gregorian Rock and Dale Benedict are very creative artists and I played on a couple of their albums. This intro section has a beautiful etherial sonic landscape. Zion guitar
29. (33:15) Atomic Love—2021. Closing Part 1 of this collection, I chose this ending jam from Jim Scaparotti’s Tin Man Project. Jim is a very good singer/songwriter I imagine, when this project is released will certainly get some serious attention. The band is amazing on this whole record—Dan Needham on drums, Dave Cleveland on guitar, Gary Lunn on bass, Lynn Nichols co producing and BGVs. I invited my very talented friend and guitarist/singer/songwriter Rex Schnelle to trade off guitar riffs with me on this
piece by Jim. Rex really can “shred” as it were! Lots of energy here. Rex is playing his Line 6 guitar and I am on my Zion into my Vox AC 30

Part 2:
1. (00:00) Route Canal —1993. Written by Alan Bradley, this piece ended up being an instrumental with John Sferra on drums and myself on guitars and bass. It’s a raucous tune but has amazing energy. John excels on the drums and I’m playing my Zion and a Gibson bass.
2. (01:22) John The Revalator 1992. This is my Strat solo at the end of this recording from the Blue album. The Crimson and Blue version is the Les Paul. Phil Madeira- organ, John Sferra -drums, Wade Jaynes -bass and Lynn Nichols rhythm guitar. More energy here….
3. (03:55) Movie — now going back to 1985 to the Getting Close album. I co wrote movie with drummer and friend John Mehler ( drummer with Love Song Band) I am playing that special guitar made by Fernando Villareal. Think Had been listening to Eddie Van Halen before I recorded this solo…
4. (04:35) Coomsie / Keaggy Jam#4 -2024. Most recently I got together to jam with two very special younger players -Tyler and brother Erick Coomes. We did about six jams and this is a sample here. These brothers can really groove! I played my Zion through BluGtr Amp1-a very cool tube amp pedal designed by Thomas Blug.
5. (05:45) Memory — 1999. This is an acoustic snippet -I often played as I began my Shades Of Green piece. I’m playing my Olson Acoustic which I really love!
6. (06:25) Beachland Jam —2008 This is Glass Harp live in Cleveland Ohio: John Sferra-drums, Daniel Pecchio- bass and I’m on my Les Paul using the E-bow. This was improvised and is a very interesting piece of jamming. I felt we had some fun moments and the audience enjoyed it too! I’m using a Line 6 DL 4 looper here as well.
7. (11:16) Thus Far— Sometime around 2006 I recorded electric guitar tracks to 4 pieces of music Dave Bainbridge of Iona had sent me. This is one of them- Dave is an exceptional composer and musician. I love the atmosphere he creates. The guitar I played on this was an Ibinez that a friend who had popped in and asked my opinion of the guitar. I just plugged in and began to record to this Dave Bainbridge piece.
8. (15:16) Lightfall Across The Landscape. 2021. I recorded with my Musicteller friends for the second time: Shannon Hayden on cello, Tony Gerber on keys, flutes and harmonica and Kyle Jones on percussion. Our first project together was in Jan 2020 and this project called After The Storm was recorded in one day in May of 2021. We’ve done one live and 3 studio projects so far. Very creative players, they are. I’m playing my Zion direct into a Cali 76 compressor and into a delay unit.
9. (18:29) Our Girls— 2010. John Sferra and Jack Giering again here from our Album “InterDimensional Traveler. This is a fave of mine. Jack was a fine composer! Again, I’m on the Zion guitar.
10. (20:13) Phantasy— 1995. This was originally inspired by Ralph Vaughan-Williams music-which I love! This recording was a part of the 220 album project back when…with Lynn Williams on drums, Pat Leonard on keys and Spencer Cambell on bass. I’m playing my Strat into a small Gallien-Krueger amp.
11. (22:50) Get Over It—1989. Solo from this song. This is the Find Me In These Fields Band lineup. I pretty much duplicated the solo from the mid 80s demo from Back Room Trax Vol 2 playing a Fender Telecaster through Vox AC 30
12. (23:22) Whatever Life Demands—1970. Solo from the first Glass Harp album. Les Paul through a Fender Twin Reverb recorded at Electric Lady Studios in NYC.
13. (24:25) Salvation Army Band- 1994. This is an alternate solo from the True Believer sessions produced by Alan Shacklock. I’m playing my Strat through the Vox AC 30.
14. (25:12) Longing For Peace- 2023. Ending solo on my Zion to this piece of music that I wrote recently. Kyle Jones is on percussion.
15. (25:58) Cappadocia—2018. Opening track to the 3rd album I recorded with friend and collaborator Jeff Johnson. We’ve just completed our 5th album which will be released this year called “Spinning On A Cosmic Dime) This solo here was my Zion being played through a small Vox MV 50 amp.
16. (27:07) Can You See Me (live solo at Carnegie Hall in 1971) Glass Harp opened for the Kinks in Nov 71 and we were pretty pumped and nervous at the same time. I love this live album-It’s us at our best, I believe! I played my 1971 Les Paul Deluxe through two Fender Tin Reverb amps. I was 20 years old at there time. What a memory! Here’s hoping our live album will one day be available on vinyl !
17. (30:17) Joyful -2005. Here’s my ode to Beethoven’s Ninth. Mike Radovsky is on drums.
18. (33:58) Take Me Closer—1976. The ending solo to a song I’ve loved playing especially in those early days. Again, Jim Gordon on drums, leland Sklar on Bass and Larry Knechtel on piano. I’m playing the 71 Paul through a Fender Twin. This album Love Broke Thru was produced by Buck Herring and I’m ever so grateful Buck took an interest in my music!
19. (34:51) Renewal—2019. This is an excerpt from a live recording I did with Tony Gerber and Brenner Jennings. I included this because Bernadette, my wife, thinks it’s very pretty! I like it as well.
20. (36:38) Learning to Love - 2023 This piece is the outro to another Jim Scaparotti song and I felt it would make a good closer. Thanks Jim for offering it as a finale to this second volume of bits and pieces of solos and such. Again I’m playing the old white Zion guitar into the Vox AC 30. It feels quite fitting! Thanks all for listening and traveling down this musical memory lane with me. God bless you all
